The fifth edition of the Society’s book covers the history of Ide Hill and in addition includes a selection of local walks. This book is currently available in the Ide Hill Community Shop and at Emmetts Garden (National Trust).
Joint Editors: Maggie Palmer, Stephen Palmer
The book has chapters and illustrations contributed by different members of the society. These chapters cover such subjects as the early history of Ide Hill; village life after 1800; village life during the war years; the village post war; the hurricane which had a significant effect on the village; church and chapel; the village school; historic houses and wells; information about the woodlands and wildlife along with a chapter on the birds of Bough Beech.
The book also includes a selection of 10 local walks that all start from the village green ranging from a short children’s walk to a much longer circular walk from the village to Sevenoaks town and back. Each walk is accompanied by a map.
There is information about the various village societies, clubs and activities in addition to places to eat, drink and shop.
There is also a list of places to visit that are within a 5 mile radius of Ide Hill village.
The book will be of interest to both residents, newcomers to the village and visitors – either those who choose to relax and enjoy the fine views afforded from the seats at the top of the village green or those who wish to take advantage of the fine walking the area offers.
The book retails at £4.95.
